services - learning

WNY R-AHEC helps students connect with preceptors in rural areas who offer learning opportunities, allowing students to train in and experience the diversity of these communities. In promoting such partnerships, it is hoped that the graduating student will consider future rural practice.

Training - Current Available Programs

Dependant on available funding, the Center may be able to provide rural placement funding through the Rural Incentive Program. This program may offer a stipend for mileage to remote rural sites, reimbursement for expenses incurred for student-arranged housing or free housing in one of our five regional houses.

Acceptance into this application-based program is based on 1) receipt of an application prior to the rural placement, 2) tentative approval from the R-AHEC office and 3) submission of receipts or mileage logs in a timely manner.

We have leased houses in five locations throughout the region. Accommodations are currently free of charge, in Westfield, Jamestown, Olean, Hornell and Clifton Springs. All houses can hold three or more students in double occupancy rooms. Space in these houses is available on a first-come basis and is contingent on receipt of a Rural Incentive Application. Click on Location Map to identify available housing sites.

For an application or more information on this program and other rural placement opportunities, please contact center@r-ahec.org.
